Similarities:
1) In all four gospels, Pilate denies that Jesus committed a crime. "What is truth? retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him" (Jn 18: 38).
2) In all four gospels, the people want Barabbas, a murderer, to be released instead of Jesus. "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?' asked the governor. 'Barabbas', they answered" (Mt 27: 21).
Unique Points:
1) In Matthew, Pilate washes his hands because he does not want Jesus' blood on his hands. Pilate says, "I am innocent of this mans blood" (Mt 27: 24).
2) In Luke, the Sanhedrin accused Jesus of misleading the nation and failing to pay taxes. They say, "We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and staying that he himself is Christ, a King" (Lk 23: 2).
